Wards Karate-Do & Self Defence

Welcome to Wards Karate-Do and Schools of Self Defence, we are an operating group that runs various clubs throughout Kings Lynn & West Norfolk. Downham Market Karate Club was previously known as the North Norfolk Karate Club and is based at Wimbotsham & Stow Village Hall. Fincham Karate Club is based at Fincham Memorial Hall and Kings Lynn Special Needs Karate Club is based at the youth centre on providence street.

We operate small and friendly clubs that offer weekly classes in traditional Karate (Shotokan & Okinawan based), Self Defence and Freestyle Karate. Currently we offer classes for students as young as 4 with adult classes that have no upper age limit. We feel that everybody should be able to get access to good quality martial arts and self defence training and welcome students from all social backgrounds and ethnic origins. Students who attend other Karate clubs and even other martial arts clubs are also all welcome to come and train with us.
All types of people do Karate

Not only do we operate local classes but also offer training and services to youth groups, schools, business and the local borough council at various get active events. We act as a central referral unit, so can point you in the direction of your nearest suitable club in your area. So even if our classes and courses are out of you way, get in touch and we will direct you to your local club. Our annual Karate camps also offer juniors the chance to train hard and learn some new things, sometimes things that would not normally be taught in class. This years camp was themed around weaponry, previously it was coloured belt promotion, our next camp is themed on the cultural side of Karate, looking at the eastern culture and the art of Karate, bringing martial arts and culture together.

All our clubs and events are licensed and insured by the West Norfolk Karate Association.

3 Peaks Challenge

3 Peaks ChallengeFancy a challenge? May 2011 will see Wards Karate-Do participate in our biggest and most dangerous event to date. We will be walking the Yorkshire 3 peaks - aiming to do all 3 peaks (roughly 25 miles) in only 12 hours.

Although this seems easy, on a flat straight line it is - but this is up and down hill, over rough terrain walking through marshy ground and over creaks and crevasses. Is it dangerous - yes it is - as the day goes on both mind and body will become more and more tired. It only takes a miss footing or a sudden change in the weather and you have a situation. There is no road support, no walking support - no GPS....

We are looking to raise funds for the club, but also make a sizeable donation to the RNLI,  and maybe another local charity. Plenty of worthwhile causes, so we are asking that you support the team by making a donation, all donations will be in strictest confidence and only the total sums raised will be disclosed. Please use the donate button below to make a donation or sponsor a individual directly.

Walkers so far include myself (Simon Ward), Debbie Cann, Matt Silcock, Jake & Jonah Auker, Natasha Swain and Ciaran McDonald, we still have plenty of space on the team, so if you are up for the challenge then get in touch to put your name down, open to students, friends and family. Juniors may also attend but must be attended by a parent/responsible adult. At all times I will have final say as to participation where they may be concerns for safety and/or ability.
